Does Massachusetts law require unpaid lunch breaks?
If so, after how many hours?
Do employees have to take these breaks?
If not, is the employer required to pay?

    I don't know about Mass law, but under the federal law, if the employee continues working through a break, the employee must be paid for that time. Also under the federal law, breaks under 20 minutes and meal periods under 30 minutes must be paid.

    Massachusetts law requires that employees who are scheduled to work for six hours or more receive a 1/2 hour unpaid lunch break. Employees may not work through their lunch break if they work longer than 6 hours unless they have waived this break and the Massachusetts Attorney General's office will only allow employees to waive the break if the employer has qualified for such waivers through an application.
