Does North Carolina require employers to give breaks to hourly employees? If so what are the durations?

There is no legal requirement in NC that employees be given any breaks. However, it's been my experience that most employers, as a good management practice, do give breaks. Usually a lunch break of 30-60 minutes and a.m. and p.m. breaks of 10 to 15 minutes.

There are break requirements for employees under 16 and there may be further requirements by regulatory agencies of various professions such as pharmacy or transportation.
