Supplementing STD with other Paid Time Off

Our STD plan is simply a self funded salary continuation plan that pays 66-2/3 of salary for a period of disability. I have an employee who has requested to supplement the 66-2/3 benefit with vacation pay, so he receives about the same amount of pay in his paycheck. Has anyone else had this request, and what is your policy?

Then, I'm wondering about our LTD plan which we purchase through another provider - can this be supplemented?

It seems to me that earned vacation time belongs to the employee, and it can be used whenever, as long as it complies with written policies.
