COBRA AND SEVERANCE PACKAGE

If an employee is offered severance with severance counting towards pension calculation and two months of medical, would the two months of medical be company paid Cobra or would Cobra start after the severance package, two months later?

  • If, under your plan, coverage ends when employment is terminated, then COBRA would be offered at that time, the end of employment. As part of the severance you may pay for COBRA for the retired employee for so two months. You can't delay the onset of COBRA if they elect, if your plan terminates coverage with the termination of employment, which most do.
