Mileage and Meal per diems

Hello!
I am wondering how other companies determine what they will reimburse for mileage and meal per diems. I know that the government puts out numbers every year for these items, but does everyone just go with what the government allots? Or do some companies go over/under that amount?

We do the government rates.

We pay .25 per mile and every year I submit a request to change it to the government rates. At income tax time, the employee can itemize the difference of the government rate and the 25 cents (under miscellaneous expenses).

I don't like it. I'll try again next budget year.

We pay $.26 per mile and our ee's think we are SO BAD - Owner will not budge on this. We also pay only $10 per diem if ee has an overnight stay. I know this is way cheap - but we are a private consulting company and the Owner gets to choose.
