HIPAA and address change

I called our dental insurance provider today to notify them of an employee's address change. I was informed that, due to HIPAA, I can no longer do that because notifications of address change have to come directly from the employee on the official and signed "HIPAA Authorization for Release of Health Information."
Is that a common practice? Am I not supposed to know my employees' home addresses? Am I not supposed to notify providers? Please tell me they're wrong.

I got a call today from the HIPAA section of the insurance company. Turns out the rep I spoke to did not know what she was doing and gave me incorrect information. Please disregard my question, and if the moderator would like to delete it that would be fine with me.
