Do any federal USPS guidelines alter the traditional FMLA rule that allows a company to terminate an employee who remains out on leave more than the 12 allowable weeks?

I believe the laws for federal employees are different, albeit similar to the ones for the private sector. You might want to check out this website:

Gosh, it isn't often that we have an attorney asking US questions, Jeff. Hmm. Anyway, it looks like Open has given you a good link. If you'll do a search, or browse through past posts on this forum, you'll find that extending leave past the 12 weeks for FML is very common, but depends on policy and presidence of the company. So, the answer is - it depends on the USPS.

Is this where I throw in a lawyer joke about it'll cost you $50 for that advice?
