FMLA expiration notification

Does an employer have an obligation to send a written notification to an employee when their FMLA runs out? We have employees who are short-term disability which runs concurrent with FMLA and I always send them a letter when they are out of FMLA. Do I have to do this? Thanks.

I notify my employees every two weeks with payroll how many weeks of FML they have left even if they do not receive wages. Protects the company and keeps employees informed. I also make sure to make as many notations on the U.S. Dept. of Labor Form WH-381 as fit the leave. I have one employee who will be done on the 25th and I will notify him in writing that we cannot keep the position open any longer.

To answer your specific question, no you don't. It's nice that you do, but outside the initial notice outlining the expectations and obligations of the employee, you don't have to furnish a "countdown".

I notify our employees when their FMLA leave runs out and they no longer have a job with us. Our attorney advised us to do so to cover ourselves and I think it's the right thing to do to notify the employee. Send it certified mail so its receipt is verified.

Cindy G, can you send me the form you send to them when the fmla runs out and you notify them they do not have a job. i need to send one out and i need ideas thanks stella
