Tuberculosis

I recently found out that an employee of ours is being treated for TB. She said it is inactive but because this is a serious health risk can't I ask her for proof? I don't want to step over any boundaries but I also don't want to put all my other employees at risk.

  • Just read your message, sorry so much time has passed. TB is a classified communicable disease. Whether the employee is considered "inactive" or not, I believe she not only should provide medical proof; but should also allow you, in confidence, to obtain further information. It used to be that the Public Health Dept. was to be notified of any such cases. This disease is again on the rise. Hopefully, you will be able to make this employee understand the importance of the terrible health hazard to herself and all others she may be in contact with.
