Chiropractor Certified Physician under FMLA?

Have an employee who has been off work with back trouble since 8/6/04; this was just brought to my attention today (8/23). It appears his supervisor had knowledge of him being off and just did not relay the information to me to initiate FMLA x:o xx(... what to do?? If the "employer" had knowledge and did nothing is it too late to retroactively designate? He will now be off under chiropractic care until atleast 9/4.

Is a chiropractor a certified physician for purposes of completing a physicians certification under FMLA? Thanks!!!
