Period of incapacity

I've looked through most of the training information I have received from training seminars and am still confused. Who would have guessed?

One of our employees has two sons that require periodic counseling sessions. They are not incapacitated by this, however, our employee takes time off to take them for their visits. Are her absences covered as intermittent leave? I have given her the DOL certification form to take to their doctor and stressed that once the paperwork is returned, we will be able to determine if her absences will be covered by FMLA. One of her sons is having additional counseling to help him deal with the death of his father early this year.
