I-9 Question

I know new employees have 3 days to complete the I-9 form. We hand out the I-9 on Day 1, and would like to finish it on their first day. So, here's my question:

After someone has accepted a position, but before they have started on the job, can we give them the Lists of Acceptable Documents and ask them if they would please bring idenfication on their first day?

We send out an I-9 form out along with their offer letter and ask that they bring it along with the necessary documents on thier first day of employment if they accept our offer. This is how it was done before I started.
