Absence Calculation - Do FMLA Absences Get Included?

BNA, somewhat the "gold standard" for making a comparative analysis defines absences as unscheduled absences and says "not to include absences after the first four days; vacations, holidays, or other scheduled leave; or absences of less than a full day."
My question:
When an employee is out for a full day or longer under FMLA and since FMLA is scheduled leave should FMLA in this situation not be included in the absentee calculation as a day of absence? There does not seem to be a common standard of calculating attendance, and I was wondering what others are doing.
