Well I guess I've been living in a cave! I saw the post on this day on the forum for the first time the other day! I'm curious as to how many of your company's observe this day at all, so I would like to take a poll. Let me know if you do or don't observe this day. Thanks!

We do send out employee anniversary cards and birthday cards hand-signed by managers, supervisors and coworkers. It's a lot of work, but it's worth it.
We don't do any collective appreciation except for the speeches at the Christmas party.
I guess I have been here so long I began to think it was a national event. ;;)

Several years back we started having "Employee Appreciation Day" rather than the former Secretary's Day/Admin Asst. Day. It works better for us and is an acknowledgement of all. Usually manager's prepare breakfast for staff and we have flowers and small items/gifts, etc.
I'm with Dasher and NaeNae: we've morphed it into an EE Appreciation Day for all staff. We close the ofc early (1:00 PM) and give all staff, including management + execs, 1/2 day of Administrative Leave for that day.
If we recognized only our administrative staff, all the other staff would quickly get a case of "recognition envy", and it would end up being a net negative for EE morale around here. Best to recognize the contribution of all EEs, not just a selected group.
