FAX permission deadline

I have recently heard that we will be required to get permission from our dealers, customers, etc. in order to fax things to them. Has anyone heard about this new federal mandate? When is it suppose to go into effect and what is it exactly?
Any answers would help.

I would doubt the veracity of the report you've heard, but stranger things have happened. Any fax, not PHI or something like that?

Yes, this is true but it only applies to advertisements. If you are faxing something that advertises an item, service or whatever, you need to have prior permission on file from the entity to whom you are faxing to.

This is to stop "fax spam". Now, if we could only do the same for email spam. I can only imagine what our IT folks think about me and my teen porn and no rx needed viagra spam that they can't seem to filter or stop.
