Succession Planning

Does anyone have a Succession Plan in place that they would be willing to share with me? I work for a small municipality (75 employees) and our Town Manager has requested that I write a Succession Plan. I'm not sure how to go about doing that. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

  • Lots of textbook type information out there on this topic. Generally you are identifying key positions and developing a plan to "groom" in house personnel to fill in as the positions become vacated. When you are in a small workforce with a diverse skill set, you will often find yourself identifying positions that take specialized education or experience. Some of these will require a recruitment plan to fill from the outside.

    Our local county government spent a few years and thousands of dollars on this topic - they are the largest employer in the county though - and had the time and the need to do this in depth approach.
