I have a friend that is a contract worker for a Threpeutic Youth company and they make it a requirement for contract employees to attend monthly training without compensation. Is this legally correct or should the company be paying the employees.

In my other life in health care, we had lots of contract employees. Our agreement with the agency was that their employees were required to attend our training. The agency was responsible for paying their employees for attending the training.

What in the world is a threpeutic youth company? Any non-exempt employee that is required to attend a company function inside or outside normal working hours must be paid for that attendance as hours worked.

I'm not sure what you mean by contract e/ee. There are e/ees and independant c/ors, but if this person is in any way an e/ee then you must pay. If he is an ind.c/or to you, then his time at the training is presumably covered in his contract - but, you run some risk of destroying the independant contract status (assuming it is otherwise legit.) by demanding he be present. If he is a person employed by someone else and leased to you, then the leasing co must pay for his time at training.
