I am needing information on EAP programs. What is the cost to contract with an outside service?

  • Costs will vary according to the EAP plan design, number of ee's, type of vendor, etc. We use Magellan, have 105 ee's and everyone's on board, cost = $2.78 per ee per month. This includes access to their website, financial/legal access as well as dependent care information. Don't know if the same rates would apply to your company - could be we got a good deal. Magellan, as far as I know (their home office is in St. Louis & we're in Washington State), is a national provider.
  • My suggestion is that you call a local hospital which also has an alcohol/psychiatric unit. Those usually have or are connected with economical, local EAPs. At least they will give you an idea. They have someone who can visit you or send you pamphlets, no pressure (I assume). This is a good starting point for your search. Ours charges us one dollar per quarter per employee and that is a tremendous bargain. A reality is that they will not reach a break even point unless and until your employees utilize their counseling services, beyond the free ones, or your rehab facilities or become inpatients.

It looks like it is a great program. Cost ranges from $2.31 to $2.68 per employee per month.

We are very excited about all of the services they offer. Even though I haven't used it yet, I did call 3 of their current clients who were VERY pleased with the services they offered and said their employees really used the service.
