Does anyone have a weapons policy that they can share? AZ has a concealed-carry. I have a
disgruntaled employee and the CEO went and
obtained her concealed-carry permit because of
this employee. We do have signs on our clinics
that state "no weapons". But there is not sign
on the corporate office. Shouldn't everyone be
treated the same?

You could post a sign at the corporate office, but I think I would make sure I had a good violence in the workplace/weapons policy in place and educated all the employees about it as well. Our policy prohibits carrying weapons of any kind onto company premises, notwithstanding possession of a valid concealed-carry permit. So regardless of whether or not an employee CAN legally carry a gun, they CANNOT carry it around here.

I agree with Beagle on this. Just because someone has a permit to carry a weapon, does not mean you have to allow them to carry the weapon onto your premises.

What about fearing the former employee? We have gotten the police involved.

Beefing up your internal security, while not cheap, is far preferable to letting your CEO carry a gun around the office. What kind of security measures does your office have in place? If you don't have any, you may want to do a site assessment and determine what your needs are based on the perceived threat.

Post your email address and I'll send you ours. But I don't think you really want to get into a pissing contest with the boss over this. I assume she's the one with hiring and firing authority as well as the gun.

we've been considering adding a clause that permits those with a permit to bring their guns to work, but they must disclose this to our security staff and leave the weapon locked with security during their shift.

i'm not a great fan of this...but we're trying to be fair to those permitted to carry.

God Denise, are you serious? We have some permitted carriers in this state; however, the law allows me to carry a loaded firearm under the seat of my vehicle without a permit or to walk around with one strapped to my side without a permit. We don't allow any on the property and certainly would not allow permitted people to tote firearms around in the place or even leave them with security. I really think your company will rethink this one.

Be very hesitant to recommend publishing the policy I sent you. She will see it as nothing other than your drawing swords against her. She holds your job in the palm of her hand.
