We are going to fire an exempt employee today. we have good reasons and some documentation. Not much because management has some sort of allergic reaction to documentation but that's just me venting.
The question is: are we required to pay him the full week or can we prorate it?
they are doing this today at around 11:30 am.

Since it is the terminal week, you can prorate the final week's salary based upon the number of days actually worked. That is provided for in the FLSA regulations. I doubt your state wage and hour laws provide differently but you should check them out as well.

Thanks for the info. I got a quick answer and that is that we can prorate it in MA.
Thanks to both of you!
