Vacation Leave: use it or lose it

We have implemented a vacation policy which if the accrual limit is reached then you lose any excess vacation. The employee cannot cash out and can be denied requested leave. Are we in compliance with federal and Washington state law?

We have implemented the same policy and I would like to know federal and MA laws too!

I don't know about Washington State, but since there's generally no law requiring vacation, the employer gets to set the rules. If you allow any carry-over, it's a generous policy. We do not allow any.

You need to check your state laws. A few states have statutes prohibiting this practice. California is one, I believe.
