When expanding into another state, what is the best way to get a handle on their state specific employment laws? Seminars I've reviewed all seem to cover mostly federal law, with a little state law thrown in. Does anyone know of a web site or other resource that would give a summary of each state's differing requirements?

We don't have a state labor department. I have searched for years for one, just one, reason why having one would make sense from the employer's perspective. You gave me what may be the only good reason I can imagine to have one.

You might also try your state's chamber of commerce. The Ohio Chamber sells a book which outlines all the federal and state employment laws. And Don is right, M.Lee Smith publishers have an excellent state specific law letter. I subscribe to both OH and WV and the articles are timely and helpful.
