Salary Differences

We are a relatively new-start up company on the verge of transitioning into a revenue generating company. As with start-ups, hiring has been done a bit haphazardly and some of our salaries are out of line with market data. Now it is time to start bringing some structure to our hiring practices. We have offices in the Dallas area and in San Francisco and it is common knowledge that salaries in the Bay Area are higher than the Dallas area. I have market data as of January, 2001 but, with the extreme changes in the economy and the job market, I am sure the market has changed. My question is this: Do any of you have experience or information on what the current basic percentage difference is between engineering salaries for Dallas vs. San Francisco?

I'm not sure that you can make it as simple as a basic percentage difference between geographic locations. Have you ever tried "Salary.com" to get a general idea about the salary differences? It is one resource that you may try as a general guideline. It gives job descriptions and salary ranges.

I have used salary.com -- but there is also salariesreview.com and wageweb.com and salaryexpert.com -- Good Luck

Thanks so very much for the advice from both who responded. I had already exhausted the information available in Salary.com but have not checked out the others you mentioned. I will certainly do that. Thanks again! What a great forum this is.
