Do any of you allow hiring relatives of your present employees?

We have a policy that discourages hiring relatives of current employees, but in the event an exception is made, (1) the persons concerned cannot work in a direct supervisory position, and (2) the employment cannot pose difficulties for supervision, security, safety, or morale.

We are a community health center with over 100 employees. Our policy allows relatives of current employees however, not in the same department. The board of directors is also notified.

Our healthcare facility is one of the major employers in town and it would be difficult to exclude relatives; however, we do have a rule that no employee may be directly supervised by a relative. This applies to physicians, also.

We hire relatives but they cannot report to one another. This includes a relative being in an organization managed by a relative. Moreover, relatives are defined as parents, spouses, children, in-laws, siblings, grandparents/children, step-parents, step-children, and unmarried persons of the same or different sex who cohabit together.
