Here is a fun game everyone on the forum can play called "Forum Survivor". The rules are simple - see how long you can stay logged in.

I have found that there are certain buttons and links that if you press them you get "voted off" the island...er forum. These links are cleverly disguised to look just like the other forum links which adds to the fun.

Ok, survivors ready?

I'm in and still on. It doesn't count when we have to navigate away from the forum and do real work, does it?

Jo, you asked a question about real work to someone who is unfamiliar with that concept.
Does it log you off after a certain amount of time idle? (Or is that 'idol', as in immunity idol?)

Paul's post worked for me also. I can leave the site and come back in with a link in my favorites and not have to sign in again. Much less aggravating.

I've always been able to navigate away from the Forum then click on the link in my Favorites and be right back on. It took me awhile for them to give me back my old username but once I got that and reset my password, I was good to go!

The rules are simple. You stay logged in, you win. If you get booted off FOR ANY REASON (and there appears to be many) then you LOSE.

I think you can get booted off for inactivity.

I have tried setting myself up the way Paul suggested, and an seriously hoping it works for me. I have not only been having trouble staying on, but most of the time I have not been able to even sign on. Our heros at the site have been working on solving these issues, and I think I might just have finally made the grade. Gloria Gaynor and her hit song is now running through my head...."I will survive!"

plynnl - we are practically neighbors. How goes thing in Vancouver? Did you hear that Portland may have taken top honors for "Unhappiest City". Thats such a funny thing. I dont see Portland or Portlanders that way. I have always found Portland to be a generally fun, funky, and friendly town.

Portland is definitely quirky. I don't see it as a depressing area and it is very friendly.
We usually hit near your area in July for the Smoke at the Ocean in Lincoln City.

My last experience with Portland made it the "unhappiest city" for us personally....we went there for an emergency and we didn't get a GPS for our rental car and wandered around town lost probably about half of the time we were there! We couldn't find our way between the hospital where my stepson was and our hotel, which were literally only blocks apart, without getting back on I-5 to get our bearings. We never got to experience Portland except from looking out the car windows and realizing that we were in the completely wrong part of town once again.

I thought maybe it was just us, but I talked with a friend who's lived in Vancouver for several years now and she said she has the same problems driving in Portland.

Yeah, you have a point. Portland has some one way streets and tons of bridges. Its pretty easy to end up somewhere you don't want to be. Worse, you can sometimes SEE where you want to be but cant find the magical one way street that takes you there.

I had the opportunity to visit Portland recently and really liked the city. But I live in the #1 city for crime, so anywhere is nice by comparison (we ranked 14th unhappiest!).

I was born in the area so Portland streets don't seem too confusing but I know they do to people who are used to the one-way streets and streets that go nowhere.

Hey Paul, it hasn't booted me off once since you let us know the secret way to stay logged in.

plynnl, I thought the streets were confusing in my town until our visit to Portland two years ago. We have a lot of streets that seem to go nowhere, but the advantage here is that this is a small enough town that if you pick one major landmark, like the ocean or the mountain, and head toward it, you'll end up back where you need to be. One thing I will say, we did see a lot of very pretty neighborhood areas in Portland that we probably wouldn't have seen if we hadn't been lost half the time, and we did stumble upon a mall while trying to find our hotel one evening so that was great for me since I don't think I've ever met a mall I didn't like!

Wow! I was able to use the secret doorway and get on easily this morning. I don't know how long I can stay, but yesterday I actually took myself off instead of being booted off. That was definitely a first for me!

Hey, in this economy and with all that's going on in the world, I would LOVE a year's supply of rice. Just have the trucks bring it around back to my underground bunker.
