Generally, yes. But like most things, it can be carried too far. Playing hurt -- physically or psychologically -- should be a personal choice and not one inflicted or expected by others. Like parents with their kids, for example.

If we come visit, will you take us to that beach? How much money should we bring?
-
Now you've done it. I will not rest until I find a huge pink growth in Oregon (even though it makes me queasy to type that phrase). It shouldn't be that difficult.
-
Okay, Paul, so you've got a fabulous beach with the third-largest monolith. Here in Texas, we have Enchanted Rock, a huge pink granite dome which -- at 640 acres in size -- is one very large batholith. I have personally hiked to the top. Check it …

Let's resist the temptation to re-elevate it, shall we?

I've heard from Larry and he asked me to let everyone know that he's on the road to recovery and will be back in the loop soon. He appreciates the well wishes. Debra

Cheryl, I've heard from Larry and he asked me to let everyone know that his recuperation is coming along and he'll be back in the loop soon. He appreciates all the well wishes. Debra

Cheryl, Hate to bum you out, but Ray called dibs on those pills days ago. Compassionate conservative that he is, that was his first priority when he found out that Larry's going under the knife.

This is great on so many levels! Anyone who enjoys this will LOVE the book "Non Campus Mentis" which I believe I have previously recommended. It is a history professor's fractured history of the world created by sequentially compiling excerpts fro…

How can I check my profile to see what I said three years ago? (I've slept since then, though not near enough.) Can I change it and then enable it? If you expect people to do technical stuff, Paul, you have to provide specific instructions for the l…

The summary: Cake, then some more cake, followed by some cake. A few cards and flowers, and then some more cake. Did I mention cake?

Thanks, everybody! I'm having a great day. My grandmother taught me that lying about your age is way better than skipping birthdays, and she was right.

I think Ray was using the trendy, hip verb form of "out", as in "expose." I like to give Ray credit for being trendy and hip whenever possible.

"6. Whirlwind mentions something she "heard on the O'Reilly factor". Don't bet the ranch on it, Paul.

"You may now return to your (normal?) life." And that won't happen for another millenium, either. :-S

And Ray Something-or-other.

Never closed, believe it or not. They kept going with what was left after the fire while rebuilding. You wouldn't want to be there today, though....we're under a severe weather alert and one of those decks would be the perfect place to get struck by…

Interesting question. It must be instinctive across species because babies will also look you in the eye long before they know what eyes are or what they do. There's also a similarity across species in what eye contact means. When you know the perso…

#'s 2 and 3 have a Serling-like quality, but I'm strictly guessing.
-
Some friends are like that. But I predict that six of their relatives will visit you next weekend.
-
That's the great thing about a girls' weekend -- you don't have to care how you look so packing's quick and easy! I can be ready by 6 pm east coast time. (I think Larry meant a six-pack, but you probably knew that.)

I'm in! When do we leave?

Do you have a more specific reference for this article? I would be interested in reading how she makes her case. Also, should I know who Linda Hirshman is?

This might be a chicken-or-egg dilemma. Which comes first -- their poor performance or our dislike? Wonder if that author ever considered the possibility that the employee is disliked BECAUSE he/she is a screw-up x:-/.

And again, GO HORNS!!!!!!!!!!!! (Looks like you needed some back-up, jtrbug.)

Then go abuse some alcohol. That'll either cure your depression or qualify you for the EAP.
