David also reminded me that whenever a transient comes on our property, I get the call. I generally try to take them to a shelter or find some resources for them once they have agreed to a quick criminal history check by our local police. I actual…

Ok, this is an actual line from the article: “I work with myself and can only touch myself ... which has its pluses and minuses,” says Todd Adler, an equities trader in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Nice job Todd. I am sure that line went over well wit…

Back to ODD HR duties for a moment, I am also a landlord. The majority of our staff live in housing we provide for them. So HR gets to deal with housing deposits, move in/out forms, inspections, etc. Its not as fun as it sounds.

The photo was taken last month. Hair Club for Men sounds expensive. I would probably have to join the Hat Club for Men.

Hey I wrote our dress code policy. I'll adjust the paragraph on hair as needed.

I firmly believe some people are "accident prone". We had a staff member here a few years ago that was literally a walking accident. I spent four hours with her in the ER on the night we took all our staff skating (yeah, I know).

Thanks! Thats my youngest daughter. That pic was taken at "Sandcastle Day" which is a yearly competition for professional and amateur sandcastle builders. Behind me is Haystack Rock.

I am alot like Frank (in that sense). Anything that makes employees more effective is fair game for my input or oversight. One of my favorite areas is customer service. I am obsessed with it.

By the way, I wrote this very quickly last night. I didnt mean to give the impression (if I did) that this is a simple problem and easily addressed. Its not. These situations are very complex and often uncomfortable for all involved. I would gue…

I have had this exact conversation with a smoker/smelly person. 1. Expect them to be shocked. "What??? No one has ever complained before!!" 2. Stay focused. 3. Avoid saying "always" or "never". Say "sometimes your body odor is too noticeable"…

An acquaintance of mine recently left a hotel here to work for a hotel in Portland that belongs to the same company. Since she started there she has posted several comments about how dirty the place is. I think she is referring to the front desk a…

Here is a question. Would it bother you to find out that one of your employees was posting "Bored at work" on their Facebook or Twitter page? It bothered one employer enough to fire the employee.

Thanks Joannie but this seems to be easier for me. Confused guy scratching head.

Youre welcome. cool guy with shades.

I was an assistant dining room supervisor for 3 years. An invaluable experience with a fantastic supervisor who taught me so much about motivating others.
-
Sorry Sonny. I thought your guess sounded pretty accurate (and based on some past experience perhaps???) but suprisingly it was an HR person who crafted this policy.

I gave up on icons. I just write them out. Sad face.

I haven't verified these but they were listed in an article about AP's fumblings of Facebook: A stadium employee with the Philadelphia Eagles was fired in March after a Facebook post calling the team “retarded” for trading a star player. A North Ca…

The City of Bozeman will be glad to know that now the Associated Press has garnered attention for its aggressive Facebook policies which include 1) dont say anything bad about the AP and 2) delete anything your friends say that "violates AP standard…

I was our initial webmaster up to a year ago. Ten years ago I was handed a copy of Microsoft Frontpage and told "build us a website, boy!" Well, they didnt say "boy". I manage our Facebook "fan" page now. I have emceed some of our conferences an…
