GPS tracking on company trucks

Our company is going to put gps tracking systems on all company trucks. Do we need to let the employees know this before we do it? I am thinking that it will be an invasion of privacy (like video taping employees) and we need to have them sign a release before we put them in?
Thanks

Hi Wendy,
we did this for a landscaping company so I understand your concerns. You have every right to install the tracking system and are not required to inform your employees nor get a release as you are tracking the company assets (trucks) and not the employees. However, I would just recommend informing your employees anyways and explaining the purpose for the tracking. You may want to modify your employee handbook to add a statement clearly stating that any damage/modification/alteration to the equipment can result in termination of employment.
Good Luck.
