  I believe that this has stalled out in Congress. Still in committee and waiting for further action. Seems the Dems and Republicans cannot agree -- what a shock!

  President Bush vetoed the legislation to which the minimum wage increase was attached.  Democrats don't have enough votes to override the veto, so they will have to start over.  Meanwhile, a growing number of states continue to raise their minimum wages above the federal level.  Thirty-three states have approved a minimum wage above $5.15 per hour.  You can read more here: http://hr.blr.com/news.aspx?id=75839

  I hear on NPR this morning that the war funding bill may be signed within the week, along with the minimum wage increase. Does anyone know the details of the minimum wage part?

  The legislation will most likely be like the one proposed earlier in the year. If so, the minimum wage would increase to $7.25 over a period of 26 months. It would happen in three steps:

   

  • $5.85 an hour effective on the 60th day after the date of enactment of the bill
    
  • $6.55 twelve months after the first increase became effective, and
    
  • $7.25 beginning 24 months after the first increase became effective.

  Barbie,

   Congress has approved the minimum wage increase, sending it to President Bush, who is expected to sign it soon.  This time, it looks like there are no obstacles to get in its way.
