giving a kidney to the boss

I just read where a woman donated a kidney so her boss could have one. She was later fired.
The woman claims she returned to work even before her boss did, but then started having health issues. Her boss called her at home and told the employee she couldn't be just coming and going or it would look like she was receiving special treatment. The employee was eventually transferred to another facility 50 miles away and then fired. The former employee has now filed a lawsuit.
Did the employee try to get special treatment? Did the employer abuse her leave rights? Is this a new and clever way to sell a kidney (I'm an extremely generous person now give me a million or two)?
I don't know the answers to these questions. I suspect, however, that best practices will soon include not letting employees donate body parts for managers, and possibly for other employees.
Sigh.
