Downtime possible on Monday

Just to give you a heads-up, we'll be doing some technical work on the Employers Forum on Monday (June 21). We'll have to shut down the Forum briefly - just a few minutes if all goes well. Hopefully you won't even notice.

If you run into any general weirdness on the Forum, please be patient, and please let me know if it lasts more than an hour or so.

This technical work is part of a major change that we've talked about for several years - limiting Forum membership to newsletter subscribers only. I'll fill you in on the details on Monday, and the change won't take place for a month. This is difficult because we hate to lose anyone, but we think the change will help the Forum community as a whole.

James: Just a fleeting FYI. When our corporation makes major changes or plans to shut processes and access down for system work, they come in on Saturday and do the deed so as not to disrupt business. For God's sake, man, an hour without the Forum is like Bill Clinton having an hour without a chick to ogle!

Good point, Don. Most of the work has already been done without disrupting the Forum, and Monday we're basically flipping a switch. In all likelihood, it'll just take a few minutes, but I wanted to give a heads-up just in case.

Bill must be very proud that he qualifies under some of the "welfare" standards. His wife has a job and he gets a check from the government each month.

I don't begrudge anyone who has held that office their "check from the government each month." That is the most thankless, heartless job in the world and anyone who can survive four years, let alone eight, deserves every penny of his/her pension.

I'm just thankful that the only pension Kerry and Hillary will ever draw will be that of ex-senator. x:D Just think, the woman never worked a day in her life and now has a position suddenly that will result in lifetime insurance and a pension larger than most of us will ever draw. What is that called?
