Beer Can Chicken

OK, all you Martha's ou there, what did I do wrong here?
I took two chickens, seasoned them, opened two cans of beer, drank half of each one, added teryaki sauce to each can, "sat" the chickens over the cans, put them on the Weber over indirect heat, closed the lid, and cooked 'em for 1-1/2 hours. The chickens looked beautiful. I took them off the cans and noticed that NOTHING CAME OUT OF THE CANS. THEY WERE STILL FULL. I tought the beer mixture would boil, foam, or something out of the cans during cooking. So what the hell?
