Did I understand National Guard to imply that Kerry is leading the country in the polls and needn't worry? You can get whatever you want from the polls, taken collectively, and choosing among them, if you listen to the radio or TV long enough. I was hearing how W took the second debate handily for about three days and now I'm hearing that Kerry won the first two. It's a crock. He did not. It's interesting also to see the new CNN (ha) poll giving an edge to Kerry but then to notice they called 400 people in the city of Atlanta, Georgia. It is my personal opinion that the media are hyping this crap simply to keep us tuned in and that Kerry has not a rat's ass of a chance. We'll see. My prediction is Bush in a relatively calm landslide, 67% of the popular vote, conservatively, and, of course, the electoral college edge.
People who watch the debates, I surmise, are educated people for the most part who want to watch the STRATEGERIE and stage action and they have their minds made up when they get a highball and flip the debate channel on. I can't imagine that anybody would be sitting there thinking a debate is going to help them make up their mind on who they will vote for. Who among you is of that mindset? And if you are not, what makes you think somebody else is? And whose vote did Kerry hope to influence by the lesbian remark?
NO - I was referring to the thread on American Idol 3 where most forumites seemed to favor LaToya London and not Fanatasia. Fantasia ended up winning. I was suggesting that we forumites as a group might be out of touch with the rest of the population (excluding you Don of course).x:D
We can only pray xpray that your theory is wrong. And to compare the Presidential election to a silly talent show is inconceivable. I would hope most people would give a little more thought to something that could drastically change their own lives.
My gosh, give the girl a break. She is just giving you her theory on luck. I have noticed that the Bush supporters seem to me much more "forward" about their belief. I have a 19 year old son that has been told all his high school years that the armed forces are all about travel and FREE college. He doesn't know anyone that has ever served during war time. The marines tried several occasions during my now 22 year old daughter's senior year to recruit her - using this same lanuage. I'm not saying who is right and who is wrong and neither should any of you. Like someone said earlier, we have our minds made up so we know there is no convincing to be done. We as Americans are in this thing together so lets try to hope for the best and not be so nasty with each other.
If I pretended you lived in Florida, your vote wouldn't count either time. I have heard (rumor only, of course) that in Chicago even the dead can vote twice. And, of course, here in NY the motto is "vote early and often." :oo
Me, never...I am an over protective parent that worries too much I guess. In addition to that, I feel like I always try to be the peace maker. (Boy did I pick the wrong career)- I didn't mean to sound like I had gotten sideways. I just felt for National Guard. Don - gotta a pill? x;-)
I struggled with that, too, Mwild. I cast my ballot yesterday (thanks to Oregon's vote-by-mail system - our ballots were mailed to us this weekend) and it was a real dome-scratcher trying to decide whether to vote for Bush or Kerry. I finally decided.
I've been reluctant to vote for Bush this whole time, but had resigned myself to it once Kerry picked Edwards. I guess what's making me rethink things is the fact that I'm one of those folks that felt like Kerry did win the debates - in my opinion (and it's only mine) hands down. Also, x:-8 I saw fahrenheit 9/11 this weekend. I would have to do a lot of research on my own before I would buy anything Michael Moore says, except one thing in the movie did ring true for me - the use of fear in the campaign by the President & his group about Terrorism. So now I'm asking myself - am I voting for Bush because I'm afraid not to or am I voting for him because I believe that of the two candidates, he's the best choice. I know Kerry runs on a lot of fear too - but I feel like I'm so afraid of terrorism that the only person that can protect me is Bush. That is starting to seem wrong to me...
Anyhow, sorry to hijack - back to our normally scheduled programming x:-)

He is better with words and vocabulary. Those things are important in a president, but not, in my opinion, as important as leadership. Bush is a doer. He takes action and is guided by what he thinks is right, regardless of the opinion polls. I recall the last Presidents reaction to terrorism. He launched a couple of ICBMs into the middle of Afghanistan and accurately struck an abondoned training facility. The message he sent was one that bolstered the terrorists courage. The U.S. will stand very far away and shake a great big stick, but will not do anything to thwart our plans. I have a son in the marines. He is a true patriot and is committed to protecting our way of life. Even though his commitment places him in harms way, he believes in our country. I respect that and as much as it pains me to do so, I honor and respect his decision. From that perspective alone, I think Bush is the better choice. I have other reasons as well, but just thought I would share that one.
LAST EDITED ON 10-18-04 AT 02:28PM (CST)[br][br]I too saw Fahrenheit 9/11 this weekend. I think there is something that everyone finds in the film that is concerning. As I am sure everyone will with the Kerry film. The thing that hit me in 9/11 was the fact that Bush sat there and continued with the elementary students for a full 7 minutes after he was told about the WTC attack. It bothered me that he was not strong enough to excuse himself, even for a few minutes to at least find out what the details were. It concerns me that he has no real leadership qualities without his people. Did you see the look on his face as he sat there? I am sure he was in shock like every other American but he is the leader of this country so you would think he would be inquiring immediately as to what exactly had happened.

Was that fillibuster one word?
And to compare the Presidential election to a silly talent show is inconceivable.
I would hope most people would give a little more thought to something that could drastically change their own lives.
JMO,
Lisa
I am sorry if you took my response to heart but I was making a point based on my own opinion (JMO).
It has nothing to do with who I choose to vote for but putting things in the proper context.
Talent show v.s. Presidential election :-?
Although sometimes that is how people vote(based on looks, personality, etc.) so I guess I'm shooting myself in the foot. x;-)
JMO,
Lisa x:D
P.S. Sorry more than 1 word.
Shoot - I'm voting again and I don't care who doesn't like it. Just pretend I live in Florida, okay.
Don - gotta a pill? x;-)

Sorry, way more than one word.
