My favorite place to vacation is on the lake, in a fishing boat, in the warm sunshine on Devils Lake, ND (I might even have some of those old sneakers that you have been talking about)
Au contre. There are more fishing poles in our garage than I have shoes. My comment did not mean to go barefoot. It was merely a retort to some other threads on the Forum.
We bought a pontoon boat a few years ago. It's my 'instant vacation' two or three times a week from April to October. ...Sometimes it's the only thing that keeps me sane after a day in HR.
Fishing (barefoot...I'm real careful with my hooks), reading a good book, or just relaxing on the sundeck while my hubby flyfishes off the bow. Shame we don't have summer all year in Ohio.
I understand what you mean, HRBanker. I named my ski boat "Hydro-Therapy". It keeps you sane. The only problem is I moved to Idaho, very short boating season.
Has anyone been to Ixtapa, Mexico? My husband and I have heard about it, but only briefly, and we would like to take a trip there this coming winter. Would like to know where to stay, etc.?
We spent 7 days at Ixtapa, Mexico several years ago. We thoroughly enjoyed the area and hope to return in a few years to see how much more it has developed. We stayed at an all inclusive (mid-priced). Usually had a themed buffet at night. We golfed a couple of times and took a few excursions - otherwise we layed on the beach, did some snokeling and soaked up the sun and pina coladas. I would highly recommend the area.
This is to Dixied: Do you remember where you stayed? Was it on the beach or close to it? We like to golf and fish too so I think it would be ideal for us for about 10 days.
I'm easy to please - I like the Oregon Coast. I usually stay in Lincoln City or Rockaway Beach. I have never visited Paul's town (Cannon Beach) though. Too spendy for my cheap skate nature! I've been to the San Juan Islands in my home state of Washington, but I was pretty little. I want to go up and see the Orcas swimming in the Sound. I've heard it's pretty amazing. When I was growing up we drove to Minnesota every summer to see my mom's folks. We would go "straight across" Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, South Dakota some years. I've seen Custer's Battlefield about a million times. Other years we would go the round about way through Oregon, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, and Iowa. Then once we went through BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba. The best place I ever went on vacation was Japan though. It's a totally different world. You can keep England though - I hated it there.
Actually, I hate to admit it, but whenever someone talks about Jamaica it reminds me of an "adult" advertisement I once saw in the back of my favorite magazine (called "Jane") about the, er, "get-aways" they have there for adults who want to hang out with other adults who, ah, enjoy adult stuff. I couldn't believe it was being advertised in a "regular" magazine - maybe I'm just old fashioned.
Haven't been on many vacations, prefer to stay in my own yard, enjoying the peace and quiet and not venture out.
But, by the end of May we may be headed to Minnesota to check out more lighthouses. I'm researching a haunted lighthouse in the area. Don't think I would sleep over, but would sure love to check it out!
Also looking into a weekend in Chicago. Anybody have suggestions on what to do in Chicago? x;)
Yes, I know, why would I want to leave Wisconsin? Just short-term, to see how the night life is in Chicago. The night life in Wisconsin is just . . . dark.
In Wisconsin, doesn't everybody gather down at the filling station on Saturday nights to watch the numbers go around on the gas pumps when someone fills up? Now, THAT's entertainment!
LAST EDITED ON 05-03-04 AT 02:51PM (CST)[br][br]Better yet, we sit around a large fire in the yard, throwing on a few new logs periodically and watching until our eye brows burn off. We pass a bottle around the circle and when it's empty, it goes on the fire and we watch it melt. (Our fires ARE hot enough to melt a bottle).
Now that I think about it, why would I want to leave that and head to Chicago? There's nothing like a good bonfire.
We have good friends who live at Poplar, WI & that is just beautiful, tranquil country! We visit them annually for a 4-5 day golfing excursion. My friend is also intrigued by lighthouses - she would be interested in knowing which one is supposedly haunted.

Finding this more and more difficult to buy into!
