HR Forum cruise

With the recent talk about vacations and cruises, the 20 degree Wisconsin weather outside, my imagination is taking off . . .

. . . wouldn't it be interesting to plan for a HR Forum cruise?

I figure if we start planning now, by JULY of next year we could all coordinate a cruise.

What kind of fun could we have, finally putting faces and voices together with names. We'd have to have our user names on our nametags.

Mel, why wouldn't you prefer this cruise to happen in the winter? It's 20's here in NY, too. Funny, my wife just mentioned to me the other day she would never want to go on a cruise. So, I guess I'd be on my own.

I'm in. I think it would be a hoot.

However, I want a definitive listing of unacceptable and inappropriate behavior distributed to all attendees prior to departure along with a list of employment law and tort lawyers who take cases on contingency.

My sisters and I have been planning a cruise for our parent’s 50th anniversary. If you book 8 or more cabins the rates drop significantly.

If this a cruise that can be written off as a business expense (we could have meetings every morning to discuss the most popular topics on this site - Survivor) I propose it be a winter cruise leaving and returning from Rio. On the same basis, if it's a summer business cruise, I propose Copenhagen. However, being realistic, I think it's a great idea. I'm already looking forward going to the formal dinner wearing my HR Hero t-shirt (unless, of course, that is considered inappropriate.

Having it in the summer was the plan only because it too late to throw it together for winter. Depends on how quickly Leslie can get it together! x;)

I'm 100% in favor of a cruise - anytime, anywhere. It's a gorgeous, sunny, 70 degree day here in Austin, but need to get AWAY (yes, I'm yelling) from the demanding job, aging parents, sick dog and -- if you'll pardon the note of bah humbug - the Christmas insanity. I just spent my lunch "hour" standing in an endless line at Best Buy (should be called Worst Service)to pay for a karaoke CD for a friend's daughter. Which reminds me, since I'm in a b***hy mood: I don't have any kids and I'm sick of buying Christmas presents for everyone else's.

Okay, do I need a cruise or what? But now that y'all know my true colors, maybe I won't be invited...

I'd be happy to be your cruise planner. But if I'm actually going it'll have to be at least a year from now - I figure my savings account won't recover until then! This was my SO's first cruise, and now that he knows what it's all about, he won't miss out on the next one. So, cruises may be many great and wonderful things, but one of them is not inexpensive!

So, the suggestions abound...where we gonna go?

I have to chime in, I believe a poll of forum folks (was that offensive) is in order. I for one have no desire to take a cruise. While I love water, boats/ships etc, I still have no desire to go on a cruise. Sorry but I opine that I am not the only one who is against this cruise idea. How about just having a meeting place large enough to accomodate all, say, Las Vegas?

OK, OK, if a cruise is the only way to get the Forum Folks, (oops there I go again) together count me in. 8-}

I'm with you, Safety - no desire whatsoever to participate in a cruise. However, the opportunity to get together with the other forum participants, by whatever collective title they want to be known, would almost be worth overcoming my loathing of the cruise idea.

Maybe a summer cruise up the northwest coast toward Alsaka?

After the day I had a cruise is just what I need. February is generally the most miserable month in Boston, its the shortest but also the coldest, grayest, and all around most gloomy. But I do like the 7 month lead time for a July cruise, it will give me time to get into bathing suit shape, I am starting my New Years resolution early. I've packed on about ten pounds in the past year or two which is alot on my 5'4" small frame. I like the idea of writing it off as a business expense, our companies should appreciate that a happy HR person is a productive HR person.

HRQ, the "boys" did NOT meet in Oregon. Some nonsense about them wanting me to buy their plane tickets (which I could hardly justify when I turn in my expenses).

Besides, I know what women are like when they're all in the same room - man-bashing central! x;-)

HRQ - I know that's how the game is played, I was married once and I couldn't push a noun up against a verb without stumbling over some kind of double standard vis-a-vis women.

But I need to re-dub you another character - Mjindra is the original Little Red Haired Girl, and even mentioned me in her profile so I feel kinda beholden to her. How about we make you Lucy? I think that fits. x:-)

Never been on a cruise but we'll be heading for our 4th stay at a Sandals "adults-only, all-inclusive" in Jamaica the end of January. They totally spoilyou, and all food, beverages and tipping are included. No kids running around, the sound of the waves crashing on the coral reef puts you to sleep, etc. Try it, you'll like it!
