By popular demand, well Ray mentioned it once, I've just posted my instructions for Southern Fried Turkey. I pasted it from a Southern website where I have it posted with some articles. It's over on the HR Hero Food column. If you get a chance to eat fried turkey next week, please don't pass it up. Enjoy!

I actually printed your recipe from the southern website the other day. (Quite informative by the way)
I put down a turkey fryer for my xmas wish list. If I get it I'll be frying my first turkey for my Superbowl party in January! Heck, I might just have to buy the fryer myself even if Santa doesn't come through for me.

I've never had fried turkey, but the more I think about it, the better and better it sounds.

Funny you posted this Don, since I printed this recipe from the deep south website over the weekend and showed it to my wife.

My wife, who knows me all too well, mumbled something that sounded like "life insurance, AFLAC, homeowner's policy" and walked away shaking her head.....

I was wondering when you were getting around to this. I am purchasing a turkey fryer for my brother-in-law for Christmas from Cabela's!! Now I will include your instructions with it! Maybe next year, I will have the fried turkey experience!

Don's recipe is the best and most detailed I have read, and as stated if you get a chance to try it, you will never bake another turkey. Leftovers make great turkey salad too. Thanks for sharing Don.

Okay - I don't know anything about deep frying turkeys - sounds strange to me, but if I was offered a piece I would give it a try.

I do have to pass along a commercial that I saw last night which is very appropriate to this thread. A guy was standing out in his drive - in front of his detached garage, fall-colored leaves were on the ground and still in the trees & he had all of the turkey frying equipment around. Was he trying to sell the equipment? No! He was selling enhanced home owners insurance for accidents! Provided by your good friends at Allstate. x;-)

Great post, we were planning this for Christmas Dinner with family from California and I was searching for instructions. We are having a Southern Christmas. Any other side dish suggestions? We are looking at greens and sweet potato pie.

By the way, in your article, the other suggestions for the pot with basket insert missed mentioning another great use, making BOILED PEANUTS! We buy green peanuts by the bushel and freeze them for enjoying all year round. Out big fryer is great for this purpose.

The sides we'll have next Thursday include: deviled eggs, sweet potato caserole, green bean caserole, giblet gravy, wild rice with shrimp & mushroom pieces for those who don't like dressing (stuffing), eggplant caserole, macaroni & cheese (the kids favorite always), Gran's chilled fruit salad with baby marshmallows, pecan pie, mince pie, lemon ice box pie and momma's REAL banana puddin'. After lunch, I pull the blinds in the den and throw a small quilt over mother (84) and listen as she protests that she's not going to sleep. Then we turn down the ball game real low and watch her drift off with the recliner propped up.
