So who will win the big one, the NY Yanks or the Florida Marlins? And after NY wins it, will Steinbrenner gloat? Will Steinbrenner shake up the Yanks next year to ensure a repeat?
Is there an option for none of the above???? I came to terms with it when my beloved Royals didn't make it to the playoffs (at least we had a fabulous season), but I at least thought I'd be able to root on the Cubbies. After they blew that, I thought okay - go Red Sox! Now - I don't think I can even WATCH the World Series, let alone root for either team. It depresses me to no end... x:-(
You sound like me - my favorite team? The Royals (and anybody playing the Yankees!!!) Just with the Cubs deal - I can't bring myself to really get into it this year.
Several thoughts based on above. First, Jeter is gorgeous. Second, be grateful, I live in NYC and I'm a Mets fan (hey, at least they did better than Detroit). Use to be a Brooklyn Dodger fan. x:'( There is no way I can root for the Yankees. Discretion says that for once I should keep my mouth shut.
I have heard that said about Jeter but I don't see it. By the way which sport does have the most hotties? Oh boy I think I'm gonna get in trouble on this one but here goes!
Without the face-off of the two curses, I no longer seem to care much. Baseball was great fun for a while there, now it is boring. Do I sound like a broken-hearted cubbies fan?
LAST EDITED ON 10-17-03 AT 11:46AM (CST)[p]I am a broken hearted Cubs fan x:'(. I know, I know, there's no crying in baseball! (Tom Hanks as Jimmy Dugan in "League of Their Own - a killer movie by the way).
But between my D-Backs and Cubbies, I've been National League my whole life. I think the DH is cheating and takes all the strategy out of the game. So I guess it's Go Marlins.
Let's see....Yankees....overpaid, over glamorized, hmmmmmmmmm. Don't really care for either one as I'm a twins fan. And yes, the Yankees had a $150 million dollar salary more then the Twins. But, in this case if I had to pick one it would be the Marlins! Have to go for the underdog!
I missed this one because I was visiting my mother in NY last Thursday and Friday.
Everyone loves to hate the Yankees - but I grew up within walking distance of Yankee stadium and they have always had my heart. I also went to opening day of Shea Stadium and cheer on the Mets (when they don't play the Yanks.)
For me, the Yankees have always been part of the New York spirit.
Definitely the Marlins. I think everyone is tired of the Yankees already. My opinion--Derek Jeeter is creepy and UGLY and I'm tired of his commercial where he lies to Steinbrenner. What an example they're setting for children who see that commercial. They should be ashamed of themselves. xx(
What I find creepy about that commercial, is earlier this year Steinbrenner wanted to can Jeter - they definitely were not drinking buddies. Now they are cashing in on their public feud.
I've been waiting til the end of the series to post on this topic. I've been a lifelong Yankee fan and from the other posts it seemed I was in the minority. I don't like all the Yankees and I really don't like Steinbrenner, but the Yankees are undeniably one of the greatest sports franchises in all of sports.
Having said that, congrats to the Marlins. They showed that they wanted to win it more and they got it. Like the Cubs fans say... There's always next year.
I'm with HRsage. For most of my life I thought baseball was boring and never paid much attention to the sport. I would watch the world series and that was about it. About 3 years ago I started watching and now I am hooked. So, I am a "Johnny Come Lately" with no strong ties as a fan. I'll watch the Yanks or the Mets. And actually, since I don't have full cable, the Atlanta Braves are on more than any of the NY teams, so I watch them.
Can't stand Steinbrenner, but there are a lot of good players on the Yankees. The Marlins deserved the win, they earned it.

Go Bronx Bombers!

For goodness sake George, you're the one paying him 14 gazillion dollars a year...that's how!
