Follow-up Letters

I really didn't know where to post this, so here it is. I am looking for a new job in HR since our company is going down fast. I had a great interview with a company that I really like yesterday. The interviewer even told me that they had called me to schedule my interview first because I looked better on paper than anyone else. So, I want to do this one right. He is interviewing six of us this week. He said that he would be calling by the end of ths week to let me know if I will need to come in for an interview with corporate next week. I want to send a follow-up letter. Should I still mail it and take the chance that he will make his decision before it gets there, or should I e-mail the letter? It's been a really long time since I interviewed for a position and the only people I have interviewed myself have been plant employees in the past several years. What would be appropriate here?
Thank you in advance because I know I can count on all of you! x:D

You should know by now, that HR people need a giggle once in a while.
