When I posted to the "Coke or Water" thread it got me thinging... As a child, my mom always served certain foods together. Now I find whenever I make a pork roas, I have to serve lima beans and apple sauce. Everyone knows that it just what goes with it!
What foods go together for you? And did you grow up with it, or start the habit yourself?

I started this in college when this was all I had in my dorm room- Now I have to eat it that way every time!
April
Applesauce with a hamburger casserole my mom makes.
Round Steak with brown sauce, potatoes with onions, sweet and sour cabbage. Mom's
Dutch2
Mine is baked fish, rice pilaf and cornbread.
Also, whenever I feel old (or I am sick) I always eat grilled cheese (kraft american only!) with my Mom's potato(e??? I always forget!) soup or bean w/bacon. Very comforting foods.
Pot roast, carrots and potatoes
Sausage gravy, fried eggs and biscuits
On another note, I worked with a lady who put sardines on cottage cheese. As if cottage cheese wasn't bad enough to begin with ...
Also, hot chili with corn bread, peanut butter and apple butter sandwiches, freshly caught & fried bass with grits for breakfast, or pizza with anchovies.

Sounds like something Hannibal Lector would eat for dinner! :-S
Okay its only 10AM and I'm ready for dinner! Who's buyin??
With left over Turkey, one must have the cheapest white bread one can find (any other sandwich must have expensive bread) Tons of Miracle Whip and large milk.
Strange combination and favorite comfort food.. .Peanut butter and Miracle Whip (ONLY miracle whip) with a big glass of cold milk. (This came from growing up)
All sandwiches should be eaten with milk except BLT's which require a Cola product.
And so it goes. . .
Tuna fish with miracle whip and a grated apple on fresh white bread (with the crust!)
Steak, mashed potatoes & gravy, black eyed or purple hull peas, cornbread.
Gumbo and potato salad.
No, silly... I'm not a sensitive guy. I finished a plate of very hot wings, bleu cheese sauce and a Mountain Dew.
Ah..... and a nice big piece of coconut creme pie from the local bakery.x0:)
Corn with mashed potatos. (You take a forkful of mashed potatos, stick it in the corn and evenly coat with the kernels.)
Milk with take-out pizza at home.
Hamburgers, Kraft Dinner.
Enchilladas, beans and rice.
Hot dogs, potato salad, fruit jello in the summer.
And for a few damn yankees, fresh hot maple syrup on fresh snow (not the yellow kind) and sausages.

Add to that some homemade turkey gravy and those heat and serve rolls, and you just described every Thanksgiving (my personal favorite holiday...food, food, food!) and one of my fav. meals ever.
The only way to eat this stuff is smothered in boiled potatoes, white gravy and mustard.
It's amazing that I grew up with a positive outlook, having started every new year this way!
Then there's always the inseparable combination...Deviled eggs, Penrose Sausage, saltines and a rolled-down window.
french fries with brown gravy (or with cheese and gravy)
and I can't believe noone mentioned...
Chocolate and Peanut Butter! x:9
