Subpoena of Personally Identifiable Information

Most subpoenas for records request any and all available records of a current or former employee. In this case the records concern a current employee and a civil action. The employee has taken exception to the provision of his personally identifiable information such as SSN, DOB, ADDRESS,DL number etc. There is also information on bankruptcy proceedings in his file.Customarily, medical information has been excluded without a specific court order from the judge. Problem. I have been unable to locate any legal authority to arbitraily exclude records, in this case personally identifiable information. Is there a source for some guidance.

The EE in question can request the courts to limit the scope, but that is done with motions/hearings, etc and takes a judges signature agreeing to the limits.
Thanks again.
