Double time requirements

We are a TN employer and will be soon moving to the Federal standard for overtime pay. Our corporate office is in California so we were using California standard. My question to employers using Federal guidelines for overtime, is there a law regarding double time or Sunday pay?

I agree. No federal requirements for double time or extra pay on traditional weekend days. Or holidays for that matter. In Tennessee, as in my state, you are free to simply the federal overtime regs, time and a half after 40, using whichever approved formula you choose.

While it may not be a federal or state law (I don't know CA law at all), there are sometimes industry standards. I found that there is no NE law on double time, but it is something that is common in the mfg industry. We opted to pay double time after x number of hours in a pay period (56 sticks in my mind).

Yes, there are doubletime requirements. It depends on the wage order your industry will fall under. The Federal Regs don't mean much in California. As a general rule, doubletime is paid after working 12 hours daily and over 8 hours worked on the 7th consecutive day of work. Sunday is treated like any other day.
