Payroll Checks

We have 3 employees that have not cashed checks issued to them by our company. One check is a payroll check, one check is a scholarship check and one is a retro check from when he received a raise. Any help would be appreciated greatly!

Assuming that these people are still employed, wait until six months after the dates of the checks - after which the checks become "stale"; then issue petty cash for the amounts of the checks and have them each sign a receipt.Do you have direct deposit of payroll checks ? It saves a lot of headaches.

We had this problem before with payroll checks. What you should do is check with your state (go online) to see what you have to do for "unclaimed" property. I ended up reissuing a check to the same employee for the same check twice- after that I sent a note saying if it was not cashed within thirty days, I would send it to the state as "Unclaimed Property".

I would suggest asking them if they forgot and then explain that checks expire.
