LAST EDITED ON 11-09-01 AT 07:50AM (CST)[p]Is there a law for the maximum number of hours you can work an employee on any given day?
In my state, there are limits only with respect to minors. The number of hours they can work when in school is limited and must be strictly adhered to. In my state, the number is limited even when they are on school break and the types of work they can perform is also restricted. I believe this is state specific.
no law in texas except for minors...but there have been lawsuits where a company works its employees too hard, they are tired, get off work, and get into a car crash...the person the employee collides with sues and the employee argues that workers ocmp does nor bar their injury because the employer was grossly negligent in making them work too many hours...regards from dallas, mike maslanka,214-659-4668

Many states have their own, more restrictive laws, you need to check your state.
If the employee is covered by DOT regulations, he/she is subject to daily limits on total time worked and actual time behind the wheel.
