Mandatory Benefit Dedection

Our coporate is switching our Life/STD/LTD to a new carrier.
Currently employees can elect to pay for LTD and the company pays for Life and STD. Under the new plan our corporate is making the LTD mandatory for all employees and the company will still pay for the Life and STD.

Question is: Can an employer make a benefit deduction mandatory from an employees pay check? We are in the state of Alabama if that makes a difference.
