Certification of Health Care Provider and Pregnancy

We normally require a completed Certification of Health Care Provider when someone has requested FMLA leave. However, is it really necessary when they are planning to be on leave for a normal pregnancy? Can we forego requiring the certification and possibly require it at a later time if complications occur, or would it be looked at as discrimination if we did not require it of everyone? I have three women who will soon be out for the birth of a child, and at this point no one is having any complications.
