I know I asked for a copy of a DD214 after I made a conditional offer to the applicant who stated that she received an honorable discharge from the military.
Wouldn't there need to be a job specific need to require a DD214, such as defense contracting? It isn't really a form of identification other than verifying name, ssn, etc. I've only had to provide my DD214 to one job and that was a defense contractor and needed it for clearance and verification.
