Clothing

We have a couple of employees who have been wearing army clothing to work, pants and jacket. They are not in the military. We have business casual dress, and military clothing is not on our list of acceptable clothing. Can we tell an employee not to wear them. What if they were in the reserves or something and said they wanted to honor those that are serving in the military? Can we still tell them they can't wear military clothing.

Fatigues, army green tank tops under the jackets, camouflauge, full dress suits (or pieces thereof) with pins, ribbons, etc.?
I understand your concern about wanting to be a patriotic company albeit with everyone wearing appropriate business casual. It seems your policy has already excluded this military wear, they are probably wearing "field" clothing not army "office" attire, and their choices might even be considered an insult to our armed forces.
You might consider enforcing your policy and if they have earned the right to wear it per their current or past military service, request they respect and follow the army dress code for appropriate office wear.
Can I be the crusty ole drill seargent who gets to inspect?
Drop and give me 20!
That is the sorriest excuse I have ever seen for a trouser crease. Take those pants off and don't come back in them until that crease is sharp enough to cut a steak!
etc, etc in a loud voice, just inches from his face.
OK, I have seen to many movies.
If anyone has a sample policy and you don't mind to share it, please e-mail to

Thanks so much!
