We are a Financial Institution and we follow the Federal Reserve holiday list, when they are closed, so are we. It's around 9 -10 extra days off a year.

There is also an Agency Floating Holiday which changes year to year. It ususally dovetails another holiday, e.g. Friday, July 5. All Union staff also receive a Personal Holiday they schedule with their supervisor. We lost Veteran's Day a few years ago. Since there's less than a handful of us in a company of 450 it didn't really faze anyone.

Nine (9) each year. Six are scheduled and all plants are closed, two are set aside for each of the 8 plants to decide which 2 days they want to be closed, and 1 is floating holiday for employees. (We had a good one for 2006. One of our Plants is using one of it's Plant holiday for the Monday after the super bowl! Even though I love football, this sounds stupid to me, but they can do whatever they like.

We have 12 assigned holidays and employees also get 2 floating holidays, so 14 total holidays. However, while the holiday package is exceptional, I work for a non-profit, so pay is definitely not the incentive here, the perks like family/work life balance is a major perk.

"I find it interesting that so many have eliminated Veterans' Day."

We are a public library. We eliminated Veteran's Day and President's Day as holidays in 1992, closed the library to the public and had an inservice day for staff. Well, the local veteran's group really took issue with it and our board reinstated Veteran's Day and added MLK day as holidays. Darn - they forgot to eliminate the two personal days that were added when President's Day and Veteran's Day were eliminated.
