My company is openning a very small office in another city. There will only be 3 employees there. Are there any exemptions from the required federal and state posters based on a low employee count?
I don't think so. Perhaps the state posters if laws are based on an individual workplace and the three doesn't reach the amount necessary for coverage.
I would likely try and error on the side of providing a few posters. The open disclosure will eliminate any future issues w/suppressing information, being treated like mushrooms, etc..... At the very least have sufficient info readily avail to these employees thru electronic means. Some states require posters for at least (1) employee, so you'll have to confirm if that applies to your area.
If you're balking because you don't want to shell out the big bucks for the fancy all-in-one posters, contact your state Department of Labor. They may have printed versions for free at their offices or even available for download on their web site. I also would err on the side of caution and post them.
Am I reading your post correctly, your company already has an existing businees and this new office is in addition? If that is the case, I believe you need to post required posters.
We have 5 locations and 2 of our offices have only 4 EE's however we as a company have many more EE's, we hang all the required posters in each of our locations.
I have a spreadsheet that tells what laws apply to what size companies - you want me to fax it? Also, I can get you free posters for fed laws and Ohio. (I forget if it said what state you're in). Send me your fax # if you want any of this. Send to eaa43230@yahoo.com. Liz
