We are setting our holiday list for 2006. For those giving two days at Christmas (Mon. Dec. 25), what two days are you giving? Also, is anyone giving Mon. & Tue. July 3 AND 4?
For 2006 Christmas/New Year's we will give Monday and Tuesday, 12/25 and 12/26 as well as 1/1 and 1/2/07. Our employees have the option to use Monday, 7/3 but they would have to use PTO.
The November HR Hero Survey on Holidays is in progress right now. You might find the questions & answers relevant to making decisions for next year. Over 2,000 people have answered the survey so far, and the results will be published in next week's HR Hero Line.
You can take the survey here: www.HRhero.com/survey/survey.cgi?holidays2005
And at the end of the survey, you can sign up for HR Hero Line to get notified of the results.
December 26th & 27th. Usually go home early day before Christmas Eve after the party.
January 2nd for sure. If we get the 3rd, a memo will be circulated. Will probably go home early that Friday before.
July 4th for sure. If we get the 3rd, a memo will be circulated or we may go home early. During the summer months, we are allowed to go home at 1:00 on Fridays.
Our policy has always been if the holiday falls on a Saturday we celebrate on Friday and if the holiday falls on a Sunday we celebrate on Monday.
This is how most companies I know have figured their holidays. This year one department wants to have the 23 instead of the 26 and they do not want to be closed on the 2nd of January.
I am needing to justify my rule for figuring holidays when they fall on the weekends.
Does anyone here follow the same rule and is anyone going to be open on January 2nd?
>Another note: Does anyone have their employees >work on the holiday and give then another day >off to use by March 31st instead of the holiday? > > >Thanks >Shirley
We usually will get a comp day to use before December 31st. If it is not used by the end of the year, then we are paid for that day in January of the following year along with unused sick/personal days.
We have a rule of thumb for weekend Holidays. If the holiday falls on Saturday we take Friday as a holiday. If the holiday falls on Sunday we take Monday as a holiday.
November 24 - Thanksgiving Holiday December 26 - Christmas Holiday January 2 - New Years Holiday
We have the same rule and that is why this year Christmas Eve will be observed on Friday the 23rd -- and Christmas will be observed on Monday, December 26th.
For us, if 12/24 falls on a Sat or Sun, we take the preceding Friday; if 12/25 falls on a Sat or Sun, we take the following Monday. For employees who have to work the holiday, we allow another day off either the month before, month of, or month after the holiday. Use it or lose it within those limits.

December 26 - Christmas Holiday
January 2 - New Years Holiday
In 2006, we're giving the 1/2 day for Xmas Eve on Fri, 22 Dec, plus Xmas Day (Mon).
So we'll also be giving N.Y.Eve on Fri, 29 Dec, as well as N.Y. Day.
We are not giving Mon, 3 July, as a holiday.
